What Makes YOU Feel Powerful?

Travel has an incredible side-effect of making me feel powerful. It starts by making me feel small, like I have so much left in the world to see. From there, I feel encouraged to learn and explore. When I'm in settings that challenge my "normal," I'm able to expand my opinions and learn from others, making me feel like I'm building a robust knowledge of the cultures and traditions around me.

I also find physical strength and power when I'm taking a class at The Bar Method. It's a workout unlike any other and being able to work muscles I didn't know I had makes me feel like I'm channeling my energy in a productive and healthy way.

Favorite literary quote.

"Never put off 'til tomorrow, the fun you can have today." - Aldous Huxley, 'Brave New World'

Wine or Cocktail?

A whiskey sour, but only if it's made with egg whites.

What advice would you give to your 15 year old self?

I wish I could tell 15-year-old Marissa to dive deeper into journaling from an early age. I find writing to be so therapeutic now, and I wish that I had learned that earlier on in my life.

Favorite lipstick?

Barbara by NARS

Favorite meal of the day?

Dessert

Do you sing in the shower?

Only always!

Favorite way to break a sweat?

The Bar Method! I've been going for two years and it is without a doubt the best workout I've ever had. I'm always challenged and the instructors know how to customize the class for my personal fitness goals. THE BEST.

What is the first thing you do when you get home from a trip?

Shower and takeout.

Your favorite city, and why it is so special to you?

Aside from loving Chicago, my favorite city on earth is Kailua, Hawaii. Having grown up there, I find such comfort in the kindness of the town, the Aloha Spirit that everyone shares, and the quaintness of being by the beach. Plus, Hawaii's not the worst place to visit ;)
